With the current state of the situation, a lot of events this year have been cancelled or postponed but we are trying to make the best of what has been available to us.
Halloween 2020 for us was a non-event, it it always has been (as we live out, in the sticks). So instead I’m trying to make the best of my resources, as in through the boys play activities. I purchased a few different items online and we had our own Halloween party at home. Our local pumpkin farm had also closed early this year because they ran out of pumpkins super early, so we didn’t get to do that! Next year I want to put some goody bags together for the boys and I’d like to plan some actual activities for the lead up to Halloween itself.

We do not tend to have a bonfire night, instead we usually go to an event in a local village. This year the organised event didn’t go ahead, so after speaking with Gavin we decided to throw a small event at home and it was very successful. Going forward we plan on doing this every year and making it a new tradition at home. This year we had a simple bonfire with a few fireworks as well. But because of the boys ages it didn’t last long and we came inside to get warm again. Next year I plan on making a guy fawkes scarecrow to go on top of the bonfire and I also plan on doing some food too, like bonfire toffee, marshmallows s’mores and jacket potatoes for us to enjoy around the fire. I also plan on doing more play activities around this subject (especially on the lead up to the actual day) to encouraging the boys knowledge in this area.
Just like Hamish’s birthday where we were in a lockdown, Tobias’ birthdays was much the same, so we had to change our plans quickly for us to be able to celebrate his birthday in some way. For his actual birthday we opened his presents in the morning, we had a special breakfast for him and we then went out for a walk around the stray with his new bike. We then picked up a takeaway for lunch to have at home and ate that. We ended by enjoying his beautiful birthday cake with his grandparents. All in all we had a fabulous day, I did have a visit to a zoo planned, I’m so glad I hadn’t booked as it would have been very disappointing. I think we may try to do it one day, hopefully maybe in the summer of 2021.

It’s proving to be a very funny old year in 2020 with trying to make the best of what we can, with the current situation and the lockdown restrictions that are in place and hopefully I’ve made some memories for the boys to remember during this time.
Much love
Rebecca
