Slow Cooker Ideas

I was recently speaking with some of my mummy friends and asked what they did for dinner times for their children, especially if their children had main meals at school/nursery . Most of them said a picnic plate with sandwiches etc. But one parent said the slow cooker was their best friend as it makes life easier, this made me think it’s about time I pulled mine back out again. I’ve often turned to Rebecca Lamb on Instagram for ideas of these kind of meals that can easily be done in the slow cooker and I wanted to share some ideas with you today.

1. Cottage pie is so simple to cook in a slow cooker, and yet it isn’t something people often do! Every one knows what a Cottage pie consists of, but let’s be honest, very few people think about doing it in the slow cooker. The BBC Good Food website has a recipe that I follow and it’s something that I can guarantee the kids will fill up on.

2. Spaghetti Bolognese is something that can be done in half an hour, but if you prepare everything and slap it in the slow cooker before the school run, it’s all the better! This is another one that I do all of the time in the slow cooker, and every one loves it! Ten minutes to boil the spaghetti when you get home at night and you have a hearty meal!

3. Chicken curry often get’s forgotten about when it comes to the slower cooker, but it can be really tasty. Curry flavours are usually a big hit with children, and so is chicken. The recipe i use is mild and creamy, and it was a huge hit with my whole family. Perfect for guaranteeing something slightly different at the dinner table!

4. Chilli Con Carne is one that can be bulk made and then used this recipe for two to three nights, without guilt. There are so many ways to enjoy chilli con carne, and each one tastes wholly different. You can serve it with rice one evening, and the following evening you can make wraps or tacos for a totally different meal! The other thing you can do with this is serve it with jacket potato, though they take a while to cook in the oven, but with little effort.

5. Beef Stew is the most satisfying, hearty meal for winter time. Its a healthy, veggie packed meal and all you had to do after a long day is grab a loaf of crusty bread.

What could be simpler than making tomorrows dinner the night before, or in the morning and leaving to slow cook for hours, the smell in the house is divine! I hope this has given you some inspiration and got you grabbing your slow cooker from the back of the cupboard.
